What can I expect?

Your first class an instructor will typically walk you through some of the basic class procedures. Classes begin with a bow-in which is a formal class oath. There is a short warm-up and stretching session. The class material consists of learning and perfecting techniques, Learning a form (a pre-defined set of techniques), and physical fitness.

Over time students earn different belt ranks based on level of experience.

What if I’ve never done Martial Arts?5102

Our classes welcome people from all backgrounds. Our classes are set up to teach everyone from the beginning. You don’t need to be in great shape, you don’t need to be really flexible. The classes are all about improving over time as you move up through the ranks.

What kind of clothing and gear do I need?4850

For the first trial class, loose workout clothes (short sleeved t-shirt and pants) are fine. Once signed up students will typically get a dobak (Korean for uniform) and a belt as part of their sign-up. Shoes and socks are not to be worn during class. As students progress to higher ranks protective sparring gear will be required.

 Who is this class for?

We offer a family friendly TaeKwonDo class for all ages 7 through adult. These classes offer individuals a full martial arts experience as well as the ability for children, siblings, and parents to train together in the same classes.

At Port Saint John Black Belt Academy we firmly stand behind the saying “The family that kicks together, sticks together”. Many of our students as well as our instructors started together as a family or started because of a family member. Training in martial arts not only gives the family something to do together to help build bonding moments, but it also gives them something to talk about and common goals to work towards.

Port Saint John Black Belt Academy also offers family discounts to make it easier on the wallet to train together.
