PSJBBA offers a variety of seminars, often referred to as clinics, typically on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. These seminars offer additional training beyond the typical class material. Below are just a few of the types of seminars.
One of Port Saint John Black Belt Academy’s primary goals is to teach people how to defend themselves. This involves not only kicking and punching but also confidence, and how to avoid situations that might put you or someone you love in harm’s way.
We offer seminars open to the public on a regular basis in both Women’s Self-Defense and Kid’s Self-Defense. If you are interested in taking one of these seminars please contact the school and we will put you on the list for the next one.
Do you have a large group of people who you think would benefit from some basic self-defense information? Contact the school and we can discuss setting up a private seminar for your group at your location or ours.
Self-Defense programs we offer:
- Women’s Self-Defense
- Kid’s Self-Defense
- Gun and Knife-Defense
- Practical Self-Defense
We offer a variety of weapons training. Most of these weapons are based on traditional martial arts weapons and involve learning the various strikes and blocks. Many weapons have a series of moves called a form which are used as part of mid-terms for black belts, but all ranks can attend the seminar unless listed otherwise.
- Ssahng Jeol Bahng (Nunchucks, 2 Sticks with a string)
- Bahng Mahng Ee (Escrima, Short stick)
- Jahng Bahng (Bo Staff, Long staff)
- Gum Do (Katana, Sword)
- Oh Sung Do (Broadsword)
- Jee Pahng Ee (Cane)
- Sam Dan Bahng (3 Section staff)
- Combat Weapons (1 on 1 Sparring with weapons)
Board or brick breaking allow a martial artist to practice with full power without injuring your training partners. It concentrates focus and improves technique to their most efficient form. Breaking is also a lot of fun. We predominately use rebreakable plastic boards to minimize impact on the environment and cost, though on special occasions we break wood and concrete which each provide a unique challenge.
Ground Fighting Seminar
A high percentage of real world fights end up on the ground so as part of our self-defense curriculum we teach students what to do if they happen to get pinned on the ground.
This seminar teaches students the proper way to fall to minimize injury. Not only is this useful in martial arts, but it’s been found to be beneficial in daily life and other sports.
Movie Night/Parents Night Out
About once a month we offer a night of fun, games, and a movie.
Most summers we offer 1-2 week of summer camp. This is a day camp packed full of TaeKwonDo, fun, and games.
About twice a year the school the school goes camping at a local campground. Fun and games for the entire family while getting to know your fellow students outside the school.
